COMBAT GLOBAL WARMING

Push the power button on your computer monitor.  Even while on standby, it still uses energy, so what’s the point if you’re going to be gone all weekend?

Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs CFLs last up to 10 times longer and use 75% less energy than the incandescent bulbs that also produce 75 kg's of Carbon Dioxide each year. Sure, they cost more, but they’ll save you money in the long run.

Don’t print it.
Do you really need those hard copies, or can you save it on your computer instead? It takes years for a tree to grow back. We are cutting too many trees too fast. Just by replanting them doesn't mean that they will grow back at the same rate as they are being cut for paper.

Plant a Tree. Trees suck up carbon dioxide and make clean air for us to breathe. 1 bamboo tree is enough to provide oxygen for 2 people for an entire lifetime. A normal tree recycles more than 1 tonne of Carbon Dioxide in its life.

Don’t Idle in Your Car. Idling wastes money and gas/petrol/diesel, and generates pollution and global warming causing emissions. Except when in traffic, turn your engine off if you must wait for more than 30 seconds.

Use less water. Low-flow showerheads, and cold-wash laundry cycles, smaller flush tanks can reduce the amount of household energy used by 14% to 25%. Save up to 50kgs of carbon dioxide per year by running your washing machine only when there's a full load.

Replace old appliances Old washers, driers, and refrigerators consume a lot more energy than newer appliances, especially those with an Energy Star rating. Check to see if your local utility provider offers rebates on new energy-efficient purchases as an added incentive to replace old appliances.

Say no to plastic. Plastic takes centuries to rot as well as releases a lot of harmful gases into the atmosphere. It also chokes the earth by staying in the soil and not letting water pass. One of the major causes of the July Floods in Mumbai was plastic blockages. Bring cloth bags to the market instead.

Bring your lunch. Or walk to the local eatery instead of driving or Take public transportation.Driving your car just 10 km's less each week for a year would save the environment from several hundred pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.

Nearly 10% of the average electricity bill is due to idle appliances and electronics left plugged in. Unplug appliances such as DVD players, TVs, microwaves, computers, mobile phone chargers, and when they're not in use.

Reduce.  Reuse.  Recycle. You’ve heard it before, but it’s still great advice.

Buy local. Shipping burns fuel. A 100gms package shipped by air across the country creates 240 gms of CO2 (48 gms if shipped by truck).
